Rafael Nadal became the first player since Rod Laver to win all four gram slam titles on the tennis circuit when defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to win his first U.S. Open title on Monday.

It was Nadal’s 9th grand slam title having won the French Open five times, Wimbledon twice and the Australian Open once. He has now won the last three grand slam title and will attempt to close out his fourth in January when he seeks to win the Australian Open again.

Nadal will close the year as the world number one player and is poised to becoming one of the great tennis players of all time. He has shown great versatility and has displayed over the past twelve weeks his ability to be successful on all surfaces - clay (French Open) grass (Wimbledon) and hard court (U.S. Open).
