NASHVILLE – With an impressive hat trick by United States’ Jozy Altidore, Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors left the Nashville field with 3-0 loss, in Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier.

The 19-year-old Altidore, who scored his first international hat trick, in the 13th, 71st and 89th minutes, was assisted by Landon Donovan on all three goals, placing the US in the lead of the six-nation North American qualifying group.

This loss now puts Trinidad and Tobago at the bottom of the table, and after drawing twice with Honduras and El Salvador in two previous games, the Soca Warriors will have to play catch up.

The United States, which is sitting pretty at the top, was further assisted by Honduras’ 3-1 victory over Mexico in a match that followed. Costa Rica came out on top with in the other qualifier with a 1-0 win over El Salvador.

Now, the Americans hold seven points in three games, with Costa Rica having six and Honduras four. Mexico is holding on to fourth place with three points – one up from El Salvador and Trinidad and Tobago.

Following 10 games of round-robin in the North America group, the top three countries in the group will have a shot at next year's World Cup in South Africa.

The two bottom teams will contest for another spot at the World Cup tournament.

USA will play again on June 3 when they travel to Costa Rica to challenge the home team and on June 6 where they will match up with Honduras.

Trinidad and Tobago plays Costa Rica on June 6 and Mexico on June 10.

Qualifiers end on Oct. 10.
