George Weah Makes CASA Super League Debut PDF Print E-mail

georgeˍweah.jpgTwo time World Footballer of the Year, George Weah made his debut for Lauderhill Juniors in the CASA Super League last Saturday at the Lauderhill Sports Complex.

The former AC Milan, Monaco and Chelsea player was voted to be the African Footballer of the century. He also ran for President of his country Liberia, where he came a close second in the election.

It was a very rainy evening. and unfortunately there were not many fans out to see the former super star. He entered the game with thirty minutes left. Now in his early forties, Weah still showed flashes of brilliance to remind the crowed that in his heyday he was one of the best.

However, Weah was not able to prevent his team from going down by a score of 3-0. Sean Barrette of Thunderbolts stole the show by notching a hat-trick. Final score Thunderbolts 3, Lauderhill Juniors 0.

In the other game played last Saturday, Carib United played to a scoreless draw with rivals, Unity FC.

The action continued on Sunday with a double header, due to mid week postponements. League leaders Ft. Lauderdale Rebels emerged a 6-3 winners with goals from Junior Alerte with 2, and one goal a piece from Dumel Decius, Jacqui Diejuste, Stanley Guirand, and Walter Yoder. Eagles took the lead on three occasions, but were overcome by the swift passing and excellent finishing of the league leaders. Eagles goals came from Denrick Cummings with 2, and Richard McKenzie. With this win, Rebels have assured themselves a place in the playoffs.

The second game of the double header saw fourth place BC United coming away with a draw against the bottom of the tables Juventus FC. Juventus raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Omar Ellis and Ray Graham. But BC United hit back with one goal a piece from Dane Fairweather and Emika Chinye. final score BC United 2, Juventus 2.
