Dolphins run away with first season victory PDF Print E-mail
The Miami Dolphins were no way hindered by starting rookie quarterback Chad Henne as replacement for their injured starter, Chad Pennington.

That proved to be no problem as the team literally ran away with a 38-10 victory over the Bufallo Bills to secure their first victory of the 2009 season and take their season record to 1-3. In the victory the team ran for 250 yards, and now leads the league in the running game.

In his first start in the NFL, Henne gave a credible performance achieving 14 out of 22 passes for 115 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. One could see his confidence growing as the game developed. But it was the running game led by running backs Ronnie Brown who scored two touchdowns and ran 115 yards on 20 carries, and Williams who also two scored two TD's for 85 yards on 16 carries, who were outstanding in the Dolphins victory.

Brown is having an exceptional season, and after four games is definitely the team's MVP. With Brown and Williams being a powerful combined weapon for the Dolphins, they provide wonderful insurance for the loss of Pennington.

Playing before their home crowd for the second time this season, one could sense a special swagger in the entire team. Each member on the team had a point to prove - that the Dolphins was better than its 0-3 record. And so it should, as believe it or not the team not only leads the leads the entire league in the running game, but also and on successful third down conversions.

In the past three games, there were crucial breakdowns in some category of the team which messed up the whole. Last Sunday, there was excellent teamwork all around. Coach Tony Soprano summed up the quality of play in his post game summary, saying, "The young guys played old, and the old guys played young."

In addition to the excellent running game, the defense was outstanding, recording four sacks on Bills quarterback Trent Edwards and intercepting him three times. Young Cameron Wake had three sacks, a forced fumble, four tackles for losses, two quarterback hurries, first-round pick Vontae Davis returned his first career interception 23 yards for a touchdown.

Sunday's win was strongly reminiscence of the Dolphins 38-13 shallacking of the New England last year in the ‘Fins third game of that season. That game was the turning point of the Dolphins season, and they went on to win their division.

Hopefully, the brilliant teamwork that went into Sunday's victory, which marked the biggest margin of victory in seven years, will be the starting point of another streak of victories.

Yet, the Dolphins have a much harder season than last year's. Next Monday night they host their former nemesis, the New York Jets, who before their sound defeat by New Orleans last week were having a great season. The Jets will be out to avenge defeat to the Dolphins in the divisional championship game last year, as well as their defeat last Sunday. But, If Miami play like they did against the Bills, especially in securing the ball and avoiding turnovers as they did, they should go up 2-3 at the end of the night.
