Both teams earned the right by capturing their divisional titles last Sunday, January 22. The Giants outlasted the San Francisco 49ers in overtime to take the National Football Conference (NFC) title 20-17, while the Patriots held on to beat the Baltimore Ravens and take the American Football Conference (AFC) title 23-20. If the divisional finals were anything to go by, then Super Bowl XLVI should be worth watching. The divisional finals provided fans with an opportunity to see four great teams, all well coached, going head to head. The battles were fierce, as superstars became regular players and teamwork shone bright. Defense was the order of the day and the will to succeed was clearly on display for all to see. It is often said that sports mirror life and in the end that was what happened. All humans will make mistakes. The two unfortunate individuals who made mistakes were Kyle Williams of the 49ers, who fumbled a return in overtime, putting the Giants into field goal range and making field goal kicker Lawrence Tynes New York's hero. The other was the Ravens' field goal kicker Billy Cundiff, who, with 11 seconds remaining, missed a 32-yard field goal, much to the dismay of his team. The goal would have sent the game into overtime. Life goes on and there is history to be made, and for the Patriots quarterback (QB) Tom Brady, by winning the AFC divisional title, he equaled the legendary
However, Giants QB Eli Manning, who had previously led them to a 17-14 victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, will be going all out to repeat that feat. That victory prevented the then Tom Brady led Patriots from completing a perfect season. Eli will want to stop Brady from achieving any more milestones and add another title to his resume. The stakes are high.

It will be a repeat of Super Bowl XLII as once again the New York Giants will come up against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 5, 2012 at 6:25 p.m.
record of QB Joe Montana of the San Francisco 49ers 16 post season wins and will now have a chance to break that record at the Super Bowl. It will be Brady's fifth trip to a Super Bowl, which will also equal Denver Broncos QB John Elway's Bowl appearance record. Tom has already won three Super Bowl Championships and if he succeeds in winning this one, he should be considered the greatest QB of all times.
