The drama of Super Bowl XLVI PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 09 February 2012 12:23

superbowl 2012When the Eli Manning-led New York Giants held on to a dramatic 21-17 victory over Tom Brady's New England Patriots, it immediately got fans discussing everything possible about the game.

The main discussion among die-hard sports fans was the decision taken by Patriots coach, Bill Belichick, to allow the Giants to score an uncontested touchdown with 57 seconds remaining, and his team ahead 17-15. It was a gutsy call, one that many will forever second-guess and all will never agree with, especially knowing the final outcome. Persons against coach Belichick's decision will argue that under pressure it is a known fact that humans will err. So he should have prevented the touchdown and let the Giants' field-goal kicker decide the outcome, who was under pressure from about 30 yards. Those in favor would say getting back the ball with 57 seconds and a time-out gave the Patriots their best chance. Tom Brady almost proved these individuals right if it was not for a few dropped catches by his wide receivers and tight-ends. But what still remains true is that under pressure, humans will make mistakes.

Who will win the Vince Lombardi Trophy? PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 02 February 2012 11:52

eli-manningThe question will be answered come Sunday, February 5, when the New York Giants take on the New England Patriots at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, starting at 6:25 p.m. One team will crown themselves champions at the end and shall have the honor of hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The championship trophy, up until 1970 was called the "World Championship Game Trophy." The name was changed in 1970 to honor the former and legendary head coach of the Green Bay Packers, Vince Lombardi, who captured five NFL championships during his nine years at Green Bay. Vince died the year the Super Bowl Trophy first donned his name.

The Patriots come to the final as favorites, despite losing to the Giants during the regular season. The Giants will want to prove that the victory they achieved this season was no fluke, and neither was their Super Bowl victory four years ago.

eli-manningIt will be a repeat of Super Bowl XLII as once again the New York Giants will come up against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 5, 2012 at 6:25 p.m.

Both teams earned the right by capturing their divisional titles last Sunday, January 22. The Giants outlasted the San Francisco 49ers in overtime to take the National Football Conference (NFC) title 20-17, while the Patriots held on to beat the Baltimore Ravens and take the American Football Conference (AFC) title 23-20.

The divisional finals provided fans with an opportunity to see four great teams, all well coached, going head to head.
