Just about two dozen under 17 and under 20 girls wishing to don Jamaica's national colors are expected to parade their skills for Technical Coordinator of the National Women's Football team Vin Blaine next week here in South Florida.

This through the efforts of the Jamaica International Female Football Development (JIFFD) which will facilitate the first major tryouts for national footballers outside the shores of Jamaica. The two day trials which will target girls mainly in the Florida region is set to take place on May 23 and 24 at the West Pines Soccer Club, 230 SW 196 Ave. Pembroke Pines.

Blaine says with Jamaica hosting the under 17 CONCACAF finals in November it's important that the Junior Reggae Girlz give a good account of themselves hence, he is seeking a few players to strengthen his existing squad.

Blaine further thanked JIFFD for its effort in facilitating this historic move which he is confident will boost the depth of his squad in both the under 17 and under 20 programs.

Ja, U.S. athletes look to dominate SFLA Multi Cultural Games PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 25 April 2013 13:16

The 2nd Annual South Florida Multi-Cultural Games will see athletes from over ten different nations represented on Monday, April 29 at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar, Florida. The games which get underway at 12 noon will feature athletes from Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico and the United States.

Highlights of the meet are expected to come from a host of athletes from the world's "sprint factory" Jamaica, representing the University of Technology's which is a prominent track and field institution. What is at stake however, is that this meet represents the final opportunity for some of the athletes appearing to qualify for a shot to obtain a time and secure slots in the 2013 World Championship Games in Moscow, Russia in August

The Jamaicans who will be looking to dominate will be going up against U.S. athletes from USA Track and Field Olympian Dennis Mitchell's camp, who will not only be looking to make their mark against their counterparts but to secure their place in the World Championship Games as well.

Ansin Sports Complex has an FTX Mondo surface which is only one of a total of eight in the United States and is the same surface used at the Beijing Olympic Games. The athletes will be looking to take full advantage of the surface.

The City of Miramar who is the organizer of the event is looking to grow the event to the magnitude of the famous Penn Relays and is confident that the event which is free to the public will be very competitive especially with what's at stake. Vice Mayor Alexandra P. Davis who was instrumental in the collaboration efforts of the games told the National Weekly she is looking forward to a very competitive and exciting meet.
