Team Jamaica has gained their eighth hold on the Champions Mayor's Cup, winning this year's renowned Lauderhill MAQ T20 International Night Cricket Tournament. They easily brushed aside the challenge of first time finalist Sri Lanka last Saturday, May 5, at the Lauderhill Sports Park.
It was a commanding performance by the Jamaican team. Sri Lanka's explosive batsman Naveed Ahamed threatened to destroy the Jamaican bowling attack with a very aggressive knock of 43 runs from 22 balls. He was given some support from Srinivas Nandina, who scored 30 runs. The Sri Lankan batsmen however encountered a very hostile Jamaican pace attack, folding meekly for 133 runs in 16.5 overs. The Jamaican opening bowling pair of Glenroy Anglin, with three wickets for 25 runs, and Herlando Johnson, with three wickets for 33 runs, bowled with good pace and maintained a good line. This combination proved too much for the Sri Lankan top and middle order batsmen on a wicket that was fast and bouncy.

The West Indies cricket team's most senior batsman, 37-year-old Shivnarine Chanderpaul aka "Tiger," scored an undefeated 103 against the touring Australian team in the 2012 test series. It was Shivarine's 25th test hundred. This last achievement has made Chanderpaul replace "Prince" Brian Lara as the new batting king of Kensington Oval. Chanderpaul has now scored 1374 test runs at the Kensington Oval, surpassing Lara's 1,339 runs.
Chanderpaul is now third on the West Indies all-time list of batsman with the most centuries, moving pass the great Vivian Richards (at 24) and is only behind Sir Garfield Sobers (26 ) and Brian Lara (34).
Tiger's 103 not out allowed the West Indies to declare in their first inning total at 449 for nine wickets against Australia at the "The Mecca" on the second day of the first test match.
The Australians however were able to recover from a middle order collapse and posted a strong first inning reply of their own, declaring at 406 runs for nine wickets. The West Indies were then dismissed for 143 runs in their second time at bat.
The West Indies never recovered from the loss of three wickets for four runs. Australian pace bowler Ben Hilfenhaus destroyed the West Indies top order and finished with four wickets for 27 runs. He was supported by batsmen Ryan Harris, who grabbed three wickets for 31 runs.
With 16 minutes remaining under dark skies, Australia won the first test match, scoring 192 runs for 7 wickets in 47 overs. |

After an intriguing first round, defending champions Trinidad & Tobago, red hot Sri Lanka, World XI and Jamaica all made it through to the semi-finals of the MAQ T20 International Night Cricket Tournament.
Defending champions T&T were undefeated topping group B with 15 points and will meet Sri Lanka who topped group C in the opening semi-final on April 14 at the Lauderhill Sports Park at 5 p.m.
This promises to be an exciting showdown as both teams are strong in both the batting and bowling departments. T&T will rely on all-rounder Stefan Babul who has been severe on opposing bowlers this year and his score of 107 against Barbados is one of only two centuries scored in the first round. He can expect support from Baliram Nayaik, USA national representative Anil Bhawan and captain Timothy Surujbally. In the bowling department, Stefan Babul will again feature prominentally and can expect support from Ken Singh and Tazmool Hosien.
