Anthonique Strachan seems set to continu the legacy of great Bahamian women sprinters when she sped to victory in the Women's 100 meters at the IAAF Junior World Championship in Barcelona, Spain on Wednesday, July 11. Anthonique recorded a world leading junior time of 11.20 seconds to beat back the challenge of Nimet Karakus of Turkey at 11.36 seconds and Brazilian Tamiris de Liz at 11.45 seconds. In the Men's 100 meters, Jamaican Odean Skeen had to settle for the bronze with a personal best of 10.28 seconds. The Men's 100 meters was won by Britian's Adam Gemili in a championship record time of 10.05 seconds. America's Aaron Ernest came second in a personal best of 10.17 seconds. Other Jamaican Jazeel Murphy had a very poor start and, despite finishing fast, could only manage fifth place in a time of 10.29 seconds.
