Despite pressure from the international and local human rights groups, the House of Representatives voted convincingly to retain the death penalty in Jamaica, last week. Parliament voted 34 to 15 to keep the death penalty on the books, as specified in the Offences Against the Person Act, smashing efforts from Jamaicans for Justice, Amnesty International and other civil rights groups, to sway parliamentarians.
