The NBA is about to be flipped on its head and Heat fans are brimming with joy, as three superstars will be teaming up in the Miami Heat to create what everyone expects to be a super team in the NBA. With Dywane Wade, Chris Bosh and Lebron James, set to play for the Heat, the team is expected to move from being mediocre to perhaps becoming the best team, not only in the NBA Eastern Conference, but the entire NBA; and a champion for successive seasons. But these high hopes rest on the skills of the superstars who will likely be triple the threat to most other teams in the NBA. Additionally, South Florida, a tourist Mecca, stands to get a huge economic boost from this merger of talent. According to Janice Eckles, a director of a hotel chain in Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach, “With the Heat having Wade, James and Bosh, this is not only a winner for the team, but for tourism in the region. The American Airlines Arena is going to be packed with locals and visitors for each game the Heat plays in the regular season and the playoffs. This will be great for hotels here.” ‘King’ James catches the heat With the words, “In the fall, I’m going to take my talent to South Beach and join the Miami Heat,” ‘King’ James on Thursday night sealed the deal and sent Floridians in a frenzy at the thought of have the triple threat. Fans knew on Wednesday that Chris Bosh, 26, formerly of the Toronto Raptors, had decided to join the Heat. This announcement came shortly after Wade, 28, had said he was re-signing with the Heat. However, the missing link did not come in until Thursday night when James, 25, formerly of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and arguably the best basketball player on the planet, announced on ESPN that he too was joining the Heat. James said he had spoken to his mother and took advice from friends and family, who told him he would have to live with whatever decisions he makes. He said he chose the Heat because he wants “the greatest opportunity to win now and in the future.” Matthew Cowan of Miami Lakes said, “You have no idea how big this is. This will make the Heat a legendary team like the Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan. Miami will never be the same when it comes to professional basketball.” The three players, who have represented the U.S. Olympic basketball team and have made NBA All-Star teams, made their announcements following weeks of widespread speculation as to where each would go. Since the three are free-agents, who concluded contracts with their former teams last month, they could have signed with any team that offered them the best contract. Speculations had Wade leaving the Heat, the team he helped in winning the NBA Championship in 2006 (but which has struggled since to advance in the NBA playoffs), and going to either the Chicago Bulls or the New York Knicks. Bosh was also rumored to be joining the Bulls or the Knicks, while James, it was said, would re-sign in Cleveland or join the Bulls, Knicks or the New Jersey Nets. But in the end, it was the Heat which was the winner in the trade speculations, not once, but thrice. On Wednesday Wade said he was relieved and happy to have made the decision to re-sign with the Heat, and with the addition of Bosh, was confident the team had the advantage to go further in the NBA playoffs. He said that the he and Bosh would do everything possible to attract players to Miami that could help the Heat win the championship. With James now in the mix, the championship may well be in Miami’s grasp!
