Joe Eggelletion
The sentence was brokered when Eggelletion, 61, pleaded guilty last December for conspiring to launder money and falsifying his tax returns. The postponement of his jail time came as Eggelletion is expected to be called to testify within the next few days as a defense witness in the criminal case of Joel “Jodi” Williams, one of his co-defendants. Williams’ trial will be held in West Palm Beach. Eggelletion, a Lauderdale Lakes resident admitted in December that he received some $23,000 for helping undercover FBI agents launder $900,000 in proceeds from an investment fraud. He also pleaded guilty to a state charge of bribery for taking a $3,200 golf club membership and $25,000 in cash from developers in exchange for voting in favor of their projects. He is to serve two simultaneous sentences for all the charges to which he pleaded guilty under the terms of his plea agreement. The former commissioner was sentenced in April, following his arrest last year, which was the culmination of a series of FBI stings that also netted former Miramar Commissioner, Fitzroy Salesman, who has since been tried and convicted, and Broward School Board member Barbara Gallagher.
