Handcuffs-225pxLast month’s extradition of Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke to the United States might just be the beginning of a series of extraditions if reports coming out of Jamaica are true.

According to RJR news, its “highly confidential sources” said the U.S. government “has prepared indictments for the extradition of two businessmen from Western Jamaica on drug trafficking charges.”

The report said the indictments were prepared on statements submitted to the U.S. government “by a powerful Jamaican fugitive who was given a reduced sentence last year, after he decided to cut a deal with U.S. prosecutors.”

The report also said that U.S. agents were in the island working alongside local agents to track the fugitives’ movements.

Relations between Jamaica and the U.S. were strained over the months-long saga involving the extradition of Coke, who was wanted in the U.S. on drug and gun-running charges.

The Golding administration dragged its feet on signing the extradition request for some nine months, but relented under pressure from the U.S., local entities and Jamaicans at home and abroad.

Golding signed the extradition order in May and almost a month later, following a standoff between gunmen and security forces which left over 70 dead, Coke was captured and extradited to the U.S. He is awaiting trial in a penal facility in New York.
