Barbados celebrates 45 years of independence
Barbados was the third Caribbean island from the failed West Indies Federation to gain independence from Britain. On November 30, 1966, Premier Eric Barrow, head of the Democratic Labor Party, led the country into independence and became its first prime minister. As the nation celebrates the 45th anniversary of independence, the National Weekly hails the many achievements and contribution of the Barbadian Diaspora to the region and the world, highlighting the "Unsung Heroes," of those who should never be forgotten.
