Beenie Man His debut album, The Invincible Beenie Man: The Ten Year Old DJ Wonder was produced by Bunny Lee and released in 1983, his first hit single followed the same year with the Winston Holness-produced "Over the Sea." He found his artistic home at the Shocking Vibes studio where he continued to record singles with only moderate success in the early 1990s. Beenie Man had his first number one single in Jamaica in 1993 with "Matie," and he won the DJ of the Year Award the same year, the first of eight consecutive awards. In 2002, he had a sizeable hit with a duet with Janet Jackson called "Feel It Boy" but his biggest break in America came in early 2004 with the release of a remix of "Dude" featuring guest vocals by fellow Jamaican Ms. Thing, as well as rhymes by Shawnna. He thus cemented his fan base on both sides of the Atlantic. "King of the Dancehall" was also a huge hit for "The Doctor."

From the first big event of the year in February to the Beres Hammond concert at the Hard Rock Live on December 14, South Florida certainly got its share of great entertainment for the year. The first big show of the year took place at the Miramar Regional Park on February 19. Vintage Reggae Winter Fest saw the undisputed Queen of Reggae Marcia Griffiths among a host of leading men which included Yellow Man, Leroy Sibbles, and Little John among others. The inaugural event drew a few hundred people and gave a decent show. On March 11, The Icons of Reggae concert was held at the Central Broward Regional Park and saw a slew of reggae icons putting on a great show for patrons. Toots and the Maytals, Ali Campbell's UB40, John Holt, Wailing Souls, U Roy and Lady Saw were some of the icons who took the stage. The biggest event in May was the 9th annual Palm Beach Jerk and Caribbean Culture Festival which saw thousands of patrons converging on the Meyer Amphitheater in West Palm Beach. Crowds were anxious to get a taste of the delectable jerk offerings and to see heartthrobs Baby Cham and Sanchez perform on stage. And what a performance it was. Despite the rain, patrons stood their ground with umbrellas in hand to get their part of the performance.
