toots hibbertLovers of reggae music will have a great opportunity to enjoy some of the stalwarts and icons of this genre at the "Icons of Reggae in Concert" on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the Central Broward Regional Park, 3700 NW 11th Pl. Lauderhill, Fl. 33313.

Headlining this bevy of superstars are the legendary Toots & the Maytals, who along with Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley are regarded as the fathers of Reggae music. The former lead singer of UB40 band, Ali Campbell, who has sold over 75 million records worldwide and former lead singer of Black Uhuru, winners of the first Reggae Grammy, Mykal 'Grammy' Rose, are among the icons to grace the stage. Prolific rocksteady/reggae singer John Holt, Daddy U Roy the "Originator" and the "Queen of the Dance Hall" Lady Saw (the first female DJ to win a reggae Grammy), the harmonizing protest singers, The Wailing Souls, beautiful songbird Etana and local stars Ambelique, Mical Rustle and the Code Red Band will also be providing world class entertainment. On the ones and twos will be the musical maestro Glama Wayne of Gemini Disco fame.

The executive producer of this event, CEO of Effective Music & Entertainment Berris White, says he grew up with this music and many of these stars and saw the need to recognize and showcase the stalwarts and originators of this genre and the high standards of reggae's performing origins. He hopes "Icons of Reggae in Concert" will be an annual event celebrating these icons. And what better time to start than the Golden Jubilee year, marking Jamaica's 50th anniversary of independence.

In addition to the exciting music, there will also be great food from many local Caribbean chefs and restaurants, as well as art and craft vendors who will be showcasing memorabilia in honor of Jamaica' s 50th independence anniversary. There will also be activities for the children, including bounce house and face painting.

Tickets for this fun filled day of festive music for the family are now available. Children under 12 enter for free, if accompanied by an adult. VIP tickets, which include preferred parking, seating and refreshments, are also available. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, at all Ticketmaster outlets including participating WalMart stores, local Caribbean ticket outlets and online at iconsofreggae.com.
