John Legend and The Roots will perform at Terminal 5 in New York City on September 23 as part of Unstaged: An Original Series from American Express. It was also announced that award-winning filmmaker Spike Lee will direct the headline performance. The show represents the second installment of American Express Unstaged program, which launched in July, and is the latest offering from American Express in partnership with VEVO, one of the leading online premium music video and entertainment service, and YouTube, to feature five live-stream concerts with some of today’s most talented musicians and directors over the course of the year. The performance, which will also feature surprise musical guests, will be live-streamed at 9:00PM/ET at HYPERLINK www.youtube.com/johnlegendvevo I am thrilled to help bring to life the extraordinary vision of John Legend and The Roots for this one-of-a-kind collaboration, said filmmaker Spike Lee. The collaborative covers album, titled Wake Up!, from music sensations John Legend and The Roots features a variety of songs from the 1960’s and 70’s all with an underlying theme of awareness, engagement and consciousness. The album is not only designed to represent change, hope and activism, but also features the original track Shine from the upcoming documentary film Waiting for Superman. The September 23rd Unstaged performance will mark the first time John Legend and The Roots perform together since the album debuts on September 21.
