Real Ghetto Story Comes to Town Baby Cham is causing a ruckus with his new hit song, “Ghetto Story”. (And, really, that’s an understatement). This week, “Ghetto Story” zooms zoomed from number 74 to land at number 50 on the Billboard Hot R&B Hip Hop Singles & Tracks chart. Ghetto Story has already surpassed the peak of its predecessor, Vitamin S, which peaked at #56 in 2004! The song is also doing well on the radio in the United States. It is currently up to 100 spins per week on New York radio station, Hot 97! Cham even made an appearance on MTV's Direct Effect, where he talks about the song and his upcoming album, and also recently signed a deal with Atlantic Records. Baby Cham is not only a magnificently talented artist and performer... Cham never takes his fans for granted, and unlike many entertainers, he does not get caught up in the frivolous hype of the music industry. Baby Cham always remains humble. He cares about real issues and expresses this through his music. Baby Cham gives back to his Community. Understanding the importance of education for children, Cham has gone above and beyond to help the kids by donating to schools throughout Jamaica. Baby Cham will be performing at the Bayside Hut, in Miami, on Sunday May 28, 9pm, so check him out. Big up Cham! – Yeah! Step out to another big Memorial holiday event. A FI WI GRAMMY “A Fi Wi Grammy” is the slogan for the Reggae Soca Music Awards held in South Florida every year for the past 13 years. Last year the event was unfortunately postponed as a result of the impact of Hurricane Wilma. However this year, as the producers say, “No Hurricane will be stopping us.” This year's event will be held on Saturday May, 27 at the prestigious Broward Center for the Performing Arts, starting at 8 pm sharp! This is the second year that event is being held at the BCPA, and the environment of the venue really gives one the impression of that other big music award show. At the Reggae Soca Music Awards, top reggae and soca artistes are honored in various categories namely: Vocalist, DJs, Producers, Albums, Record labels to name a few areas of awards. “For this year's event we have added a Reggaeton category, as it has now become a new musical phenomena, and we have also added a Vintage Award category for the first time, which will go to the famous Ernie Smith," quips the indomitable Winsome Charlton (Lady C), founder and producer of the Awards. Some of the individuals who will be presented with special awards are: Ernie Ranglin - Lifetime Award; Leonie Forbes & Charles Hyatt - Louise Bennett-Coverly Distinction Award; Culture - Reggae Living Legend award; Singing Sandra - Soca Living Legend Award. The event, which started in 1994, has gained national and international recognition, as well as continued popularity after many years of hard work by founder, Winsome Charlton. The star-studded event, similar to the Grammies, has maintained success by a high percentage of attendance as well as a worldwide production from an excellent production team. "A Fi Wi Grammy" is definitely the place to be on May 27, as you are stepping out to celebrate the Memorial holiday weekend. ****************************** UPCOMING EVENTS Roberta Flack plays "live" in Lauderhill, Saturday, June 3 at the Lauderhill Sports Complex.
