Last Wednesday’s Caribbean American Soccer Association (CASA) Super League action saw Western, who has made an impressive debut in the tournament, facing one of their toughest opponents in Honduras Five Stars. Western came out fighting by attacking the Honduran defense, which caught them by surprise. However, Honduras striker Alberto Munoz put the ball in the back of the net in the 8th minute to put Honduras up 1-0. This setback did not preclude Western from dominating the midfield putting together better passes and outrunning Honduras. They forced Honduras to commit a few unnecessary fouls. Western striker Floyd Williams scored in the 23rd minute, equalizing at the half. In the second half, Western players seemed to run out of steam giving Honduras a chance to put on a show for the fans. With several set plays and several bombshells that were saved only by the upright. Williams would pull one back for Western with dazzling footwork at the goal line. Honduras striker Orlando Bueso would tie the goal in the 58th minute to tie the match. Honduras sought to take the lead after a beautiful pass by a Honduran midfielder found striker Dave who controlled and with a ‘one-time’ shot found the back of the net. Unfortunately in a controversial call the goal was ruled offside. Credit however must be given to the Western goalkeeper who saved his team from what could have easily been a 6-2 game. |
