Trinidad and Tobago-born golf ace Stephen Ames carded a final round one-over 73 and ended 11th at the Masters in Augusta on Sunday evening as American Phil Mickelson snatched a two-stroke victory.

Ames, who had entered the final round joint fifth, lost ground when he bogeyed at the fourth and seventh holes.

He steadied his game on the back nine and shot a birdie at the 15th en route to a one-under 288 total, seven strokes adrift of the left-handed Mickelson, who collected US$1.26 million for his win.

It was the third major title and second green jacket for Mickelson, who was one shot clear when the weather-hit third round was completed earlier Sunday.
