After months of publicity, planning, and legal wrangling, the Stanford Super Series is set to wrap up on Saturday November 1 with the US $20 million purse match between the Stanford Superstars and England at the Stanford Cricket Ground .

The Series is the result of a cooperative agreement between Sir Allen Stanford, an American business tycoon, as well as the England & Wales Cricket Board, and the West Indies Cricket Board.

The series featured six matches and culminates with Saturday’s historic match for the richest team prize for a single sporting match.

The Stanford Superstars is a team selected from the best of the best of the regional Stanford Twenty20 Cup competitions under the captaincy of Chris Gayle, and they face a full-fledged England team under the leadership of Kevin Pietersen.

“Right now, we are getting down to crunch time, and there must be more than a few butterflies in the pits of everyone’s stomach,” Gayle said.

Gayle praised the six-week training camp which the Superstars underwent in Antigua under head coach Eldine Baptiste with assistance from Roger Harper and Cardigan Connor.

“It’s been the longest camp that I have been involved in, and we have got some benefits out of it,” he said.

“At the same time, preparation is vital for a game like this. . .It’s Twenty20 cricket and anything can happen, and this version of the game can be pretty exciting, so we need to be ready.”
