Defending champions Ft Lauderdale Blazers continued their winning ways last Saturday in their Caribbean American Soccer Association (CASA) Super League action demolishing Seleccion Colombia 7-0 in the second of a double header in which Palm Beach Pumas outmatched Island Strikers 2-1 at the Lauderhill Sports Complex.

To say that the Ft Lauderdale Blazers were well prepared against Seleccion Colombia would be an understatement.  From the moment the whistle blew the Blazers took control of the ball game. Not only maintaining possession of the ball but relieving Colombia of it on several occasions. Within five minutes of play Christopher ‘Beep Beep’ Stone,  utilizing his speed  beat Columbia’s goalkeeper in a one-on-one match up to put his team ahead one nil.  Five minutes later he would be followed in the scoring by last year’s MVP Romaro Francis to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead at the half.

In the second half Blazers turned up the heat with a barrage of attacks, which led to Christopher Stone and Romaro Francis scoring their second goals. Garnet Deer also would score two and Weblian Windy put the nail in the coffin with goal number 7.  Colombia had a chance to pull back one, but the Blazer’s goalkeeper came up with a brilliant save as his team proved that they are not only the reigning champions but a serious contender for the cup this year.

Blazers now lead the Super League with 13 points followed by Western with 11, Lauderhill Lions with 10 and Team Haiti with 9.

In the earlier action Island Strikers hoping to begin their climb from the bottom of the league needed to get past Palm Beach Pumas, who seem to be finding their own rhythm.  The first half would however set the tone for the game with Palm Beach matching striker defensively on offense.  Jonny Incardela and John Crawley scored in the 15th and 23rd minute respectively to put Palm Beach up by two at the half.

In the second half Island Strikers failed to put away several chances including a ‘chip’ ball that beat the Pumas goal keeper and just grazed the cross bar.  Brian Palmer managed to pull one back for the Strikers in the 60th minute with a well placed right-footer but it was not enough as the Strikers prevailed 2-1.

In Wednesday’s Super League action Team Haiti was in rare form against BCC.  Within the first 15 minutes Team Haiti went up by two courtesy of striker Roody Loumera 6th and 11th minute goals.  In the second half Team Haiti continued their attack with Loumera picking up goal number 3 in the 50th minute completing his ‘hat trick.’ Ronel Bienaime would also score in the 61st minute.  The game ended with the Hatians winning 5 nil.
