Earl Williams has resigned as opposition leader and political leader of the United Workers’ Party (UWP), a week after allegations of financial wrong doing surfaced.

He announced his decision Wednesday afternoon, saying that the UWP should not suffer as a result of his personal problems.

Williams has been embroiled in a scandal involving the misuse of over EC$238,000 (US$90,818) given to him to purchase land in Dominica for a client based in the United States.
