Earlier this week Florida Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL –District 19), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, signed on to Congressman Dennis Kucinich's (D-OH) Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush.
Kucinich, on Monday presented 35 Articles of Impeachment outlining numerous allegations against President Bush, including his creation of a massive propaganda campaign to mislead the nation into war with Iraq, the illegal use of torture during interrogation, the authorization of a warrantless wiretapping program on American citizens, and the repetitive use of signing statements to negate legislation passed by Congress, the mishandling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans, and the diverting of funds to Iraq resulting in the ruin of the U.S. economy.
"President Bush deliberately created a massive propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq to the American people and the charges detailed in this impeachment resolution indicate an unprecedented abuse of executive power," said Congressman Wexler, whose Florida congressional district includes Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Delray Beach, Greenacres, Lake Worth, Lantana, Margate, Pompano Beach and Tamarac.
"A decision by Congress to pursue impeachment is not an option, it is a sworn duty. It is time for Congress to stand up and defend the Constitution against the blatant violations and illegalities of this Administration. Our Founding Fathers bestowed upon Congress the power of impeachment, and it is now time that we use it to defend the rule of law from this corrupt Administration."
Earlier this year Congressman Wexler launched a nationwide campaign to hold impeachment hearings for Vice President Dick Cheney and he has also called for inherent contempt for Karl Rove for ignoring subpoenas to testify.
The congressman has also led an effort to bring former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan to appear before the House Judiciary Committee to testify under oath regarding the devastating revelations made in his new book on the Bush Administration’s deliberate efforts to mislead the American people into the Iraq War.
“The admissions made by Scott McClellan in his new book are earth-shattering and allege facts to establish that Karl Rove and Scooter Libby – and possibly Vice President Cheney - conspired to obstruct justice by lying about their role in the Plame Wilson matter and that the Bush Administration deliberately lied to the American people in order to take us to war in Iraq. Scott McClellan must now appear before the House Judiciary Committee under oath to tell Congress and the American people, how President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and White House officials deliberately orchestrated a massive propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq to the American people.”
