Last Saturday on the first night of action at the Regional Park, Tropical Nets was pitted against 7-Strikers, in a match that was delayed because of rain. The first quarter of play was closely contested as Strikers restricted Nets to 9 goals, mainly due to super defensive play, marked by several interceptions, by Keisha Bryant, Strikers’ Goal Defense.

With a near perfect first-quarter shooting performance by Goal Shooter, Charmaine Young, 7-Strikers scored 6 goals to keep them in contention, but could not maintain the pace for the next 15 minutes as Nets tripled the lead to end the first half leading 22 to 13.

In typical Nets fashion, Coach Purrier kept shifting gears, going to their deep and diverse bench at will and cruised to a 52 to 21 victory despite the courageous performance by Strikers’ Center, Gretel Cornwall, one of the best center-court players in the league.

As the National Championships in Georgia approach, Florida Netball Association’s President, Edina Bayne is “very confident that Florida will be able to successfully defend the Open title”, if the performance in this match by Georgina Hibbert, Camille Henry, Grace Lorde and Gretel Cornwall is any indication.

All roads lead to Georgia and in preparation to bring home the hardware, two exciting, exhibition squad matches are scheduled to be played, with a curry flavor, on Sunday afternoon, June 15, at the Curry Fest at the Regional Park.
