The slashing of Florida’s budget will be far reaching in its effect on schools, social services and other areas as the state tries to cut back on spending. The university will also cut out some of its courses and degree programs in an attempt to offset the, and eliminates some courses and degree programs to make up for the loss of $47 million in state money.

UF President Bernie Machen on Monday announced the cuts attest to the pressure that Florida’s 11 public universities come under to reduce costs as the state’s revenue drop.

UF leads the pack in announcing definitive plans for the coming year, and while other universities in the state have not done so, they are not ruling out having massive cuts as well.

State universities slashed a combined $100 million budgets as ordered by the state and despite the Legislature approving a 6 percent tuition raise in the state budget the money is insufficient to offset cuts in spending, university officials say.
