Sydney FC coach Pierre Littbarski says the money spent on luring Trinidad & Tobago football superstar Dwight Yorke to the A-League club was a good investment.

"All the things I was told about Dwight Yorke have turned out to be not true," Littbarski told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"The people with their doubts were not right. He's done a lot of things he didn't have to do. It's been interesting to see. He had the chance to just sit in his apartment and pick up the money but he hasn't done it like that."

He added: "He's been a proper team member. He's trained hard. He's invited players to his apartment and taken them out to dinner and out on a boat.
He's been fantastic. He's been worth every cent."

Yorke arrived at the Sydney club with a cloud over his worth, with some pundits questioning the near US $700 000 spent on the former Manchester United star.

Aged 34 and considered to be on the decline, it was thought that Yorke chose the fledgling A-League so he could play less demanding football while enjoying the night life of Australia's glitzy east coast city.

But Yorke shone with his fitness and attitude as he competed for both Trinidad & Tobago - who he helped to qualify for the World Cup finals in Germany - and Sydney FC with equal enthusiasm.

Apart from his seven goals, he has played in a creative midfield role for the club and has also had an impact with his massive experience of 16 years spent in England.

"I was a fan. And now I am more of a fan," Littbarski, who won the World Cup with the then West Germany at Italia '90, said."
