Allroundaz faced-off with 7-Strikers on Saturday evening, in what proved to be a thriller in the park at Lauderhill Sports Complex, in the first open match in Zone 1 of the Florida Netball Association’s 2008 League.
The first quarter was a blow-out by Allroundaz, who scored whopping 14 points to the Strikers’ 5. The women of 7-Strikers, began to get their bearings in the second quarter, going goal by goal with Allroundaz, losing that 15 minutes of play by only one goal.
At half time, 7-Strikers were still down by 10 points, trailing their formidable competitors by 23 to 13.
The third quarter saw 7-Strikers charging on to the courts with a vengeance and a revamped line-up, ultimately blowing Allroundaz off the court with an 11-7 score, eating into Allroundaz’s lead to draw within 6.
Though Strikers struck twelve times in rapid succession in the final quarter of play, it proved to be too little too late, as Allroundaz held on to win the game by a mere 4 points, with a final score of 40 to 36.
Other teams in Zone 1 are Sparkles, Dynamites and Tropical Nets, the 2007 League Champions.
Nets will have their work cut out for them, as 7-Strikers promises to continue to improve as the season progresses.
