In the
first of two games played at the Lauderhill Sports Complex last Saturday Unity
F.C. played against the Palm Bch. Pumas in a north versus south contest as the
Caribbean American Soccer Association (CASA) Super League continued.
Unity FC
led by player coach Garnett Deer put on a stellar performance against the
Pumas. The Palm Beach
outfit was very well organized, and they stemmed every tide that unity threw at
them to end the first half 0-0.
However in the
second half unity brought on the speedy Terence Goldson which gave them more depth
up front as he constantly threatened the Palm
Beach defense. Unity would eventually take the lead midway
through the second half with a twenty five yard scorcher from midfielder
Asmeade Grawayne which proved to be the winner. Final score Unity 1-0 Palm Beach.
The second
game was the feature game of the night with western FC versus Athletico.
This game
lived up to its expectation; Athletico had the edge in the first half as they
moved the ball from the back to attack with precision passing. They would take the
lead in the thirty fifth minute with a mistake from Western’s goal keeper. He
seemed to have misjudged a high ball from Athletico Freddeck Saurel which went
over his head into the goal. Athletico kept the 1-0 lead at the half.
In the
second half Western brought on player manager Hector Wright to spark them
offensively. They would eventually equalize in the half with a controversial
goal from Rowan Reid from a dead ball. They took a quick free kick while Athletico
were still lining up there defensive wall. However the goal was awarded by referee
Peter Isaacs even though the Athletico players protested. Isaacs would eventually
issue a red card to an Atheletico player before resuming play. When play resumed
the game got very physical and out of control with some poor officiating from
referee Isaacs. Both teams went for the
winner, but the game remained tied. Final score Western 1 Athletico 1.
