The 2008
Copa Latina tournament kick-off in Miami, Florida this weekend February 9th
and 10th with six games on the schedule which includes two teams
representing Jamaica and one, Haiti.
The
tournament which comprise of 32 teams from the Caribbean, South and Central
Americas Diaspora, will open the season on Saturday February 9th at
Ted Hendricks Stadium at Milader Park in Hialeah, with
Seleccion Colombia going up
against Seleccion Argentina
at 4:00pm.
Representing
Jamaica
will be Unity FC, who recently won the Miramar Premier Soccer League and
Thunderbolts, who were runner up in the knock out contest.
Thunderbolts
will feature players like Mark Chung, retired from MLS a couple years ago,
Craig Zaidie and Hector Wright former Jamaica National players, and John Ramos
who played for Miami FC last year. However, the team will be led by local
favorites like
Sean
Barrett, Andre Waugh and Peter Marshall.
While a
Jamaican team has won the contest only once since its inception in 1993,
Thunderbolts are excited about their chances. However, Haiti has won
five times previously and will be looking to go all the way this year.
