New York
Giants' young duo of running backs, Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw, who
offer perhaps the NFL's best one-two punch of power and speed are expected to
play a major role in this Sunday’s Super Bowl contest. In fact if the Giants
are to have a chance against the well-oiled New England
machine Jacobs and Bradshaw have to show up in a major way.
The 6 foot
4 inches 264 pounds Jacobs, who has a style of sheer power, is known to hit
real hard and bowled over defensive players who gets in his way. He's a force
that most defenders don’t want any part of, because they simply can't match his
size or strength.
To the
contrast, Bradshaw's style is explosiveness and speed. The diminutive 5 foot-9
inches, 198-pounder gives a different look, as he is known to explode through
holes in the blink of an eye and can go the distance on any given carry.
With these
two young and capable running backs the Patriots' aging linebackers, lead by
Junior Seau at 39, Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel and Adalius Thomas, will have
their hands full. If this bunch is able to keep Jacobs and Bradshaw in check,
then Tom Brady and company will have all day long to rack up the score. But if Jacobs
and Bradshaw can get going strategically, it would be good for the Giants, as
that could keep the Patriots offense off the field.
No doubt
the Giants obviously will use Jacobs run inside from the very start, looking to
wear down the Patriots' defense, who will have to chase Bradshaw outside. They
are hoping this will open up things for Eli Manning’s passing game and bring
them success.
But
although the Patriots did have their problems against physical runners in the
regular season, they did hold their own in the playoffs against the NFL's No. 2
rushing team, Jacksonville. In fact, they limited Jacobs to 67 yards in
the regular-season finale against the Giants.
Overall, it
should be a very good game this Sunday, but despite the Giants’ dynamic duo,
the Patriots will look to place their name in the history books with an
undefeated season, which will include the coveted Super Bowl title.
