The eagerly
anticipated 16th annual St. Lucia Jazz festival, that the island's Tourist
Board is staging from May 4 to 13, 2007, is getting solid rotation on top
television networks BET and BET J this month.
The preview
show, now in rotation on BET J's "Island Lime" Saturday format, is
co-hosted by St. Lucian television personality Portia Mogal who introduces
African American comedian Joe Clair to some of the breathtaking sights and
attractions offered by the Eastern Caribbean island nation.
Instead of
relaxing at his hotel in front of the television, Mogal convinces Clair to take
a personal tour of the island. He enjoys every minute of it.
"This St. Lucia show
is more than a Jazz preview," said St. Lucian Cybelle Brown, Vice
President of Sales and Business Development with BET Digital Networks. Brown
added "it is a compelling and entertaining show which showcases both the
appeal of Caribbean culture and the upcoming
festival to the African American visitor."
The show,
which debuted last weekend, will air again on April 14 at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30
p.m. and on April 28 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. BET airs the show on Wednesday, April
18 at 2 a.m. All times are Eastern.
"We
are very pleased with the on-air product and look forward to welcoming thousands
of visitors to our shores next month," said St. Lucia's Director of Tourism,
Maria Fowell.
At St.
Lucia Jazz, Brazilian sensation Tania Maria will open the main stage
performances on May 10, while Grammy award-winning John Legend headlines the
May 11 performance. May 12 features a full roster of musical highlights,
including performances by Al Jarreau & George Benson, Will Downing, Gerald
Albright, Norman Brown, Boo Hinkson and Friends, and others. Performances by
jazz superstars Natalie Cole and Isaac Hayes will close the festival on May 13.
Considered
one of the Caribbean's premier jazz festivals, St. Lucia Jazz - produced by the
St. Lucia Tourist Board - attracts thousands of visitors who enjoy more than a
dozen musical acts in a variety of unique locations and venues throughout St. Lucia.
