Among the many things that we can do to enhance our home décor, are hanging pictures, paintings, plates, mirrors and tapestry, are just to name a few. Whatever your choice is, know one thing it is going to definitely add life and character to your room.  Your selections will come in all different shapes and sizes. For this reason, their placements are very important. They may be hung by themselves or and in groups to create a collage.

To start we must know the basics. The first thing is to make sure we have all the proper tools ahead of time. The tools you may need are as follows: D-ring hangers, screws, screw driver, wire cutter, paper, pencil, ruler, tape, level, metal straightedge, picture hooks and sticky putty.

The positioning is the next step. When hanging never go below eye level. You need to make sure your arrangement is eye catching. Whether your viewers are standing or sitting, the perfect eye level should be just above the center of the walls height. If you are hanging over furniture, do your hanging at least six to eight inches above the piece. Have a an idea of how your going to display your arrangement before you get started. To execute your plan you could start on the ground by spacing and or grouping selections as you would have them on the wall. By going through this procedure first, it will eliminate the unwanted holes in the walls.

It is important to ensure that there is a balance going on. If you are using a large picture with small pictures balance is very important. For the example of a large picture with two smaller pictures there are a couple of ways we could do this. First, you could place the large picture in the center and place one of pictures on either side. The smaller pictures should be centered in the middle of the pictures height. A second example of how this could work is to put the big picture on the left and the two smaller ones, one above each other on the right. These too must be centered to height of the picture. To make a collage you use four of the same pictures together. These should have the same style, color and frame together. Now if you’re a collector of plates you can do numerous of things on the wall. Today plates have become very trendy with mirrors. You could use a mirror in the center of a wall and place the plates around it. You can use mirrors with mirrors. Hang tapestry. It is endless what you can do.

Nothing can be more disturbing to the viewer’s eye when your pictures or collage have no connection. Remember now that when you mix pictures together you are actually telling a story. Also, try to stay within a theme so that your arrangement, come together with class and character. There are times when you can mix different themes together. An example is a vintage with an eclectic theme. You just have to make it work. Clutter is never good, it tends to scream confusion and or give an unsettled feel. So not because you have the pictures, mirrors, plates or whatever your choice may be, they need to be used.

Now you have ideas of placement and planning you can move on further with your arrangement. While on the floor use a measuring tape, ruler or any measuring element of that sort. Jot down on paper your placement and distances. Once you feel good about your arrangements you should then use your pencil to apply the layout on your wall. If you have to draw a line across the wall, use a level to ensure your line is straight. If your not going to draw a line no problem. Once you have your marks in place and you feel good about your judgment, you could use the level above your hanged piece for accuracy. Depending on the weight of your pictures, will depend on the types of hooks or screws you will need. Lightweight pictures can be on one inch finishing nails. Should your frame be more than ten pounds, insert screws into wall studs, or use wall anchors.

Hanging pictures and or different elements on your wall can bring a great transformation to your environment and it is not expensive too. Have the company of a family member or a friend to help. You will get ideas and execute the job faster. Just have fun making your house a warm home.
