Police is becoming ineffective

Dear Sir:

Why isn’t your paper speaking louder and more often about the problems of gun violence in both Miami-Dade and Broward County? Each week we are losing young black teenage men and girls to crazy gun violence. It just keeps on and I am tired and sad of reading, seeing and hearing of these shootings on the news. Why isn’t the police dong more to curb these shootings, and catching those responsible?

Is it because it is black youth being killed, why nothing seems to be happening? I bet if it was white youth being killed, there would be curfews all over Miami and Broward to find the guns and the killers. That’s what we want. I hope even one policeman or policewoman in both counties read this letter. But up some type of dragnet in place like Opa Locka, Miami Gardens, Liberty City, Sistrunk and Fort Lauderdale to stop and search cars, find the guns being used in all these drive-by shootings and lock up the gun men. Don’t tell me the police have become so soft in dealing with gun violence. We need action.

Karl Nicolas, Miami

Why no oil from Trinidad?

Dear Sir:

I saw in one of your editions, a few weeks ago, that Venezuela is making arrangements with many of the Caribbean governments to provide them with oil through a special deal. This makes me to ask, what about Trinidad? Isn’t Trinidad the largest, if not the only producer of oil throughout the Caribbean? If the Caribbean is coming together closer economically, why are we not hearing about Trinidad trying to help the other Caribbean countries with oil? If this was being done, there wouldn’t be all this dependency on Chavez of Venezuela.

Does Trinidad have enough oil to help out the other Caribbean islands? I want to know.

Charles Pagan,
