Country Walk PDF Print E-mail

It’s that place you go to when you are looking for authentic Jamaican and Jamaican Chinese food. It’s also the place to get the best bammy in town. Country Walk Caribbean Take Out Restaurant, centrally located off West Oakland Park Boulevard in the 64th Street Plaza, in a little less than two years of opening, has an increasing clientele, which frequent the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

About two years ago chefs Raymond Blackwood and Brian Wong, who were working at the popular Rice Bowl Jamaican Chinese Restaurant, decided to break away and open their own restaurant. It was their wish to serve mouthwatering Jamaican and Jamaican Chinese dishes to the growing Caribbean population and to the wider society who have always enjoyed the delights of Caribbean foods. It was Brian who came up with the name “Country Walk” after much trial and error because he said people always prefer the idea of country cooking.

While we were waiting to speak to the two, they were busy serving a number of customers who filed in for their lunch. Customers selected from a delectable spread of curry goat, curry chicken, veggie chunks, callaloo, steamed veggies, fried dumplings, fish and the greatest tasting bammy in the vicinity. Of course, we wanted to know what made the bammy taste so great, and after much negotiation, we learnt it had a lot to do with the quality of the bammy and we got the secret formula from Brian. But sorry guys, we can’t tell! You have to get it at Country Walk! Oh and don’t forget to try out their potato and cassava puddings, delightful!

have a successful rose garden PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 24 October 2006

Roses are one of the jost sought after plants in the world today. They can say I love you, adorn your trellises and fences, and even sit in the smallest to grandest gardens in the world.

Like any other project, once there is a passion and love for it, you will generally reap success. When taking care of roses, one of the first things to do is to gather as much information about the plant. Go to your nearest garden store, ask gardening friends questions or simply read any literature you can get your hands on.

There are a couple of factors that we must consider to have a successful rose garden. The location, soil, drainage, planting, pruning and mulching are the factors we need to get our garden started.

To begin, your location is key. One important factor to consider about your location is the weather. Once you have a location filled with lots of sun, you know you are on to a good start in growing your rose garden. Roses need at least six hours of sun daily. If this is not the case for your location, make sure they can get a good dose of light in the afternoon. Light is very important as it helps the roses to bloom and retain color. Ensure that your location for your garden is not near any heavy irrigation plants. Heavy plants are trees and hedges. Also any area that fills up with puddles is another area to stay far from. Though roses need a lot of water, it is of utjost importance to have good drainage for your garden.

Diabetes - An Arresting Matter PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 24 October 2006

The new Australian website www.OfficialDiabetesBlog.com has uncovered reports of disturbing incidents where people suffering from diabetic hypoglycaemic episodes are mistakenly being arrested by police for being drunk.

In one such case, the protestations of the sufferer were ignored by the arresting officers, despite the presence of a diabetic keychain, until the sufferer slipped into unconsciousness and the paramedics were called.

Allegations of assault have been leveled at police by diabetics who have been arrested for erratic behavior, (a symptom of their condition), despite insisting their innocence to public intoxication.

“It seems that a lack of training and awareness amongst police is leading to innocent people being inappropriately caught up in the criminal justice system,” says Stephanie Jakobi of The Better Information Network.

It is widely known amongst diabetics that hypoglycaemia and drunken behavior can easily be confused with each other. The prevalence of severe mood swings amongst new diabetes sufferers is also a condition that many families have to deal with on a daily basis.
