When you
hear the first few lines from his celebrated single “Come Around” you start
wondering: which Jamaican is that? How come I never heard him before? He is a convincing
reggae artiste, both in content and sound, so when the speakers are blaring and
you hear, “Finally the herbs come around, the high grade weh mi a look fa mi
get it by the pound” you immediately think, ‘I like this song.’

Trinidad
Carnival has come to an end and it was probably the best start Machel Montano
could have for his 25th anniversary in the business. Machel copped the Road March title last week
leaving his competitors far behind. The
song that is played the most among the various judging points on the road wins
the coveted Road March title, and it was no surprise by Carnival Monday who
would win. “Jumbie,” had an astonishing
388 plays, versus Shurwayne Winchester’s, “Open De Gate,” at a mere 34 plays. The
rhythm and pan in, “Jumbie,” was an ideal tune for the road. The song didn’t need a roadmix to compliment
the song for the road. Over the last
four years or so, DJ’s looked forward to the roadmixes for songs, but this was
one year where many wondered what could possibly be done to make the song
better. In one word, “nothing.”

Florida recently, you know she’s still got it. In fact, the
artiste has just wrapped shooting on the music video for her newest hit single
“Big TingZ”

Don't make the mistake of
missing Aston Cooke's multi award-winning play, Jamaica 2 Rahtid when it
returns to South Florida for three
performances in March. Cooke has added
new material and combined them with stable favorites to keep the production
lively and timely.
Jamaica 2 Rahtid is a
hilarious musical revue which takes a funny look at Jamaica's state of affairs. Last
year, the play walked off with four national Actor Boy awards for best comedy,
best review, best musical score and best song. There is something in this
production for everyone in the family.
