When it comes to music, a lot of attention is given to the artistes and seldom the producer. Granted there are award shows from time to time where recognition is given, but the average music fan is more interested in the final product. I am sure many people are unaware who was behind the two winning songs that Bunji Garlin performed at the 2004 & 2005 International Soca Monarch Competition in Trinidad. Bunji can capture the attention of fans and non-fans alike simply by the way he commands his crowd. But to be a successful artiste, it’s not just the performance, but a combination of good music and delivery.
Think about your favorite musician and more than likely they are your favorite because you enjoy listening to their songs. Looks and performance alone aren’t going to cut it when you’re at work or in the car. No, it’s the music! Take this year’s Groovy Soca Monarch winner (and also the 2004 & 2005 Road March King), Shurwayne Winchester and his song, “Don’t Stop.” What makes the song so special is the music behind it. The Indian-infused rhythm combined with Shurwayne’s unique style made the song an instant hit. |
