Brazilian 1994 World Cup winning midfielder Zinho is joining Jamaicans Onandi Lowe and Sean Fraser as international players on the Miami FC roster for the forthcoming United Soccer League (USL) season. Miami FC, the new Brazilian-backed USL franchise, staged a launching press conference Tuesday that declared Zinho as a big signing for the USL's debut season. The 38-year-old Zinho was a regular starter for Brazil in the 1994 World Cup alongside Romario, Bebeto and Dunga when Brazil broke a 24-year drought of World Cup title success and beat defending champions Germany in the final. |

Trinidad’s Ames grabs first top-10 finish |

Trinidad and Tobago's Stephen Ames grabbed his first top-10 finish of the year when he shot a final round four-under 68 to finish seventh at the Honda Classic last Sunday afternoon.
Ames finished with a six-under 282 total, six shots behind British winner Luke Donald, who won by two shots over Australian Geoff Ogilvy in the US$5.5 million event. Donald carded a final round 69 for a 12-under 276 total, holding his nerve to win the second PGA Tour title of his career and US$990,000. Ogilvy, surprise winner of last month's WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship at La Costa, secured second place after closing with a 69. Ames carded rounds of 70, 69, 75 and 68 to claim his first top-10 finish since placing 10th at the WGC American Express Championship in early October last year. He has struggled to find top form this year. |

Myers paced Lauderhill to victory in Mayor’s Cup |

Darryl Myers with a remarkable knock of 72 runs not out guided Lauderhill to a convincing nine wicket win over the Leeward Islands last Saturday in the 2006 Mayor’s Cup Cricket competition played at the Lauderhill Sports Complex. The evening featured a double header with Barbados scoring a 20 runs victory over the Windward Islands in the night cap.
The Leeward Island batting first only manage to score 137 runs in their allotted 20 overs loosing seven wickets in the process. Joel Williams had 33 and Roy Weekes 30 as Lauderhill’s Robert Bascus copped 3 wickets for 17 runs off 3 overs. Lauderhill in return made short work of the Leeward Island bowling posting 142 runs for the loss of 1 wicket using only 11 of their allotted 20 overs. Nigel Lou assisted Myers with 18 not out to secure the victory. |

CASA Super League: Blazers continues to blaze |

Defending champions Ft Lauderdale Blazers continued their winning ways last Saturday in their Caribbean American Soccer Association (CASA) Super League action demolishing Seleccion Colombia 7-0 in the second of a double header in which Palm Beach Pumas outmatched Island Strikers 2-1 at the Lauderhill Sports Complex. To say that the Ft Lauderdale Blazers were well prepared against Seleccion Colombia would be an understatement. From the moment the whistle blew the Blazers took control of the ball game. Not only maintaining possession of the ball but relieving Colombia of it on several occasions. Within five minutes of play Christopher ‘Beep Beep’ Stone, utilizing his speed beat Columbia’s goalkeeper in a one-on-one match up to put his team ahead one nil. Five minutes later he would be followed in the scoring by last year’s MVP Romaro Francis to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead at the half. |
