Defending champions Ft Lauderdale Blazers continued their winning ways last Saturday in their Caribbean American Soccer Association (CASA) Super League action demolishing Seleccion Colombia 7-0 in the second of a double header in which Palm Beach Pumas outmatched Island Strikers 2-1 at the Lauderhill Sports Complex. To say that the Ft Lauderdale Blazers were well prepared against Seleccion Colombia would be an understatement. From the moment the whistle blew the Blazers took control of the ball game. Not only maintaining possession of the ball but relieving Colombia of it on several occasions. Within five minutes of play Christopher ‘Beep Beep’ Stone, utilizing his speed beat Columbia’s goalkeeper in a one-on-one match up to put his team ahead one nil. Five minutes later he would be followed in the scoring by last year’s MVP Romaro Francis to give the Blazers a 2-0 lead at the half. |

Grenada's 400-metre star Alleyne Francique's repeat win has allowed Grenada to finish an all-time best eighth at the IAAF World Indoor Track and Field Championship.
Francique, 29, clocked a season's best 45.54 seconds to defeat Botswana's California Molefe (45.75) and become only the second man in history - after American 1987 and 1989 winner Antonio McKay - to score back-to-back wins in the event at the World Indoors. Grenada's previous best on the World Indoors medal list was 13th in Budapest two years ago when Francique's win - their only medal - placed them among the highest finishers on the medal table. The medal list is tabulated with the quality of the medal weighing more heavily than the number of medals won. |

World-rated light heavyweight boxer Glen Johnson says he would move up in weight class to the cruiserweight division to tackle fellow Jamaican O'Neil Bell if the money is right.
Johnson won the little-regarded International Boxing Association (IBA) light heavyweight (175-pound) title with a victory last month over fellow Jamaican Richard Hall but he is in search of big money opportunities now. In an interview with the BoxingTalk web site recently, the 37-year-old Johnson was asked if would consider moving up to the 200-pound cruiserweight division where Bell is the undisputed champion and Frenchman Jean-Marc Mormeck, the former champion, remains a very marketable contender. |
