Florida foreclosures skyrocket PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 14 May 2006

Caribbean National Weekly News, Florida Foreclosures SkyrocketFlorida reported the second highest rate of housing foreclosures for the first quarter of 2006. The sunshine state, with 29,636 foreclosures, which represent one foreclosure out of every 247 households, is outdone only by Texas with 40,236 foreclosures. According to Realty Trac US Foreclosures Market Report, foreclosures nationally increased 72 percent (323,102 homes) in the first quarter of 2006 over the corresponding period for 2005. Florida showed a 21 percent increase.

Foreclosures on homes occur when homeowners fail to maintain the required monthly mortgage payments on their homes.

James J, Saccacio, CEO of Realty Trac said the sharp increase of foreclosures in the first quarter of this year is the continuation of a steady upward trend that had been observed since the beginning of last year. “Foreclosures have now increased in four consecutive quarters and are on a track to go above 1.2 million in 2006, which would push the nation’s annual foreclosure rate to more than one percent of US households.”

Sarwan should be captain - Richardson PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 07 May 2006

Former West Indies captain Richie Richardson says Ramnaresh Sarwan should have been appointed to lead the regional side, instead of Brian Lara.

And the 44-year-old, who led the West Indies in 24 Tests, also believes the move to appoint Lara at age 36, was not an investment for the future.

"I thought that Sarwan would have got it [captaincy]," Richardson said in an interview.

"I don't see the point of having him as vice-captain if you're not going to give him the job at some stage. But at the end of the day, whoever is given the job, we've got to support the team."

Pacer Jerome Taylor undermined the Zimbabwe batting by grabbing four wickets - three of them in a telling opening spell - to spur West Indies to an easy 98-run win in the second One-Day International (ODI) at the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG) last Sunday.

Taylor, who won the Man-of-the-Match award for the second straight game, captured four for 24 from 10 overs as Zimbabwe were dismissed for 144 in 46.2 overs, while responding to the Windies' total of 242 for nine off 50 overs.

West Indies now take a 2-0 lead into the third game of the seven-match series on Saturday May 7,  in Guyana.

Justice Chibhabha, who batted diligently in compiling a responsible 67 off 106 balls with eight fours, was again Zimbabwe's best batsman - as he was in the first game on Saturday when he made 55.

Taylor first had opener Piet Rinke top-edging a pull to square-leg where Dwayne Bravo took well-judged overhead catch in the fourth over.

Shaq can still take Heat to the promised land!! PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 07 May 2006

For the sixth time in postseason franchise history the MiIAMI HEAT has won the first two games of a playoff series. Prior to this postseason, when the Heat has won the first two games of a playoff series, they have gone on to win the series all five times.

This is a record we would like to see again.

With the Heat struggling on the road as evident in Chicago it is becoming alarming to Heat fans that the NBA title is again slipping away. The series has been a difficult one especially for Shaq since he has not delivered the goods.

Being a second seeded team, the Heat is supposed to dismiss a seventh seed team quickly and decisively in five games not six or  seven.  With the Heat being extended by the Bulls they would have put out a lot of energy to dispatch of them. We must also remember that the Heat team is filled with veteran players. Shaq is 34 years, which is not really old by NBA standards but remember this is still considered a veteran team which has to be able to bounce back from defeats and setbacks and not fight amongst themselves.
