The crowds are getting larger at the Lauderhill Sports Complex on Saturday evenings and they are being treated to some very exciting soccer matches as the Caribbean American Soccer Association (CASA) Super league continues.

In the first of two matches, league leaders and newcomers to the league Galaxy FC faced off against Dynamic Strikers. On current form, Galaxy was expected to win by at least 3 or 4 goals, but they were surprised by a very determined Dynamic team who defended well and created many goal-scoring opportunities. So, it was not surprising when they took the lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Dwayne Thomas. Galaxy would then push forward to try to get the equalizer which came in the 30th minute when, Tristan Thompson made a run down the right wing beating the fullback, and squared the ball for teammate Cleveland Brown to find the back of the net from 6 yards out. The teams went in at half time on level terms 1-1.

Sunday, 02 March 2008

Pakistan last Saturday made little work of the Leeward Islands by recording an 87 runs victory in their quest for the Goldson Spine Rehabilitation Trophy as the Lauderhill International Cricket competition continued at the Lauderhill Sports Complex.

Pakistan batting first amassed a total of 196 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs, due to some formidable batting from Irfan Hassan and Mudd Waqar who scored 54 and 48 runs respectively. Hassan hit 6 fours and 2 sixes and Waqar 2 four and 3 sixes against the bowling attack of the Leeward Islands led by Nathaniel Phillips three for 32 and Samuel Plummer 2 for 36.

Meanwhile Leeward in their turn at the crease were skittled out 109 runs with some effective bowling from Via Khan three for 18 and Rizwan Ahmad three for 19 for Pakistan. Only Delroy Thomas 35 and O’Neil Walker 17 runs, offered any resistance for the Leeward.

In an abbreviated game two, Lauderhill emerged as winners over a slow scoring Barbados via run rate as the former scored 156 runs in 16 overs to Barbados 86 in 12 overs.

Sunday, 02 March 2008

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates– West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels has been banned from bowling in international cricket, after his action was deemed illegal by the International Cricket Council.

The sport’s world governing body announced Monday that an analysis of Samuel’s off-break and faster ball showed that his action exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under regulations.

Dr Mark King, a member of the ICC Panel of Human Movement Specialists at the National Cricket Academy at Loughborough University in England, performed the independent analysis on February 11.

“The analysis showed that Samuels’ average elbow flexion/extension angle for an off-break delivery was 27 degrees while the elbow flexion/extension angle for his faster delivery was 35 degrees. The elbow flexion/extension angle for his arm ball was two degrees,” an ICC release said.
