After
watching the Miami Heat sputter offensively in the preseason, Pat Riley
realized his team was in desperate need of perimeter help.
He's
counting on newly acquired Ricky Davis to provide an immediate boost.
Davis will
slide into the injured Dwyane Wade's spot at starting shooting guard when the
Heat open the regular season next week, Riley said Thursday, one day after the
Heat pulled off a five-player trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Miami sent Antoine Walker, Michael Doleac
and Wayne Simien to the Timberwolves, along with a conditional first-round
draft pick, for Davis and Mark Blount. (Fox Sport)

Another loss and two key players |

This
Miami Dolphin nightmare has reached unthinkable heights. Last Sunday Miami not only suffered
their seventh loss, but again suffered a key loss in their personnel as, by far
the best player on the team, and Pro-Bowler Ronnie Brown left the field in the
third quarter of the game against the undefeated New England Patriots with a
torn ACL (knee) ligament. Brown managed to walk off the field under his own
power and seemed fine during interviews following the game, but following an
MRI Monday the news broke that Brown had torn his ACL. However, he wasn't the
only Dolphin to leave Sundays game with a torn ACL safety Renaldo Hill also
left the game with the similar knee injury. Hill's loss hurts what is already a
struggling Dolphins defensive backfield that already lost starting strong
safety Yerimiah Bell early in the season, and Bell's backup Tavaris Tillman.
Although
some of us idealistic ‘Dolfans’ were trying to will the Dolphins to win the
game, the real question coming into this
game was how much points would the Patriots manage to put up against the
leagues worst defense? It only took one
half for us to have the answer, as the Patriots scored a whopping 42 points by
the end of the half. The final answer was 48. Yes 48, that’s almost 50. Jeez!
.Tom Brady manhandled the Dolphins, throwing 6 Touchdowns. Two were thrown to
star wide receiver Randy Moss who beat cornerback Cameron Worrell on a deep
jump ball before the half.
It seems like when former Dolphins players
return with other teams to play at the stadium formerly named after Joe Robbie,
and now called Dolphin’s stadium they excel. (Could Dolphin Stadium be really
jinxed, like some silly people are claiming because the name was changed from
its founder Joe Robbie? Now I am sounding silly, but I am searching for an
explanation for this ill-fated season.).
Former Dolphin Wes Welker ended his day with 138 yards and 2 touchdowns
against his old squad. Cleo Lemon got his second consecutive start but the
Patriots defense managed to give him a rough time, forcing Lemon to fumble
early in the 1st half. Lemon threw for over 200 yards with his young set of
receivers led by second-year receiver Derek Hagan with 4 receptions for 56
yards.

Western
United copped the Jamaica National Money Transfer Trophy last Sunday as they
defeated Thunder Bolts in the finals of the Miramar Premiere Soccer League
Knockout competition played at the Miramar
Regional Park,
in Miramar.
The victory
was somewhat of redemption for Western who lost in the league finals against
Unity FC previously.
However it
was not easy for Western who was pushed back on their heels early on in the
game by an aggressive Thunder Bolts who came out in an attacking mode mounting
several raids inside the Western half. Sean
Barrette in particular wreaked havoc on the Western defense with some dazzling dribble
mesmerizing them as he performed his magic with the ball. He was eventually
brought down in the penalty box twenty minutes into the game, by Western captain
Jason Davis as their defense failed to contain him.
Craig
Zaidie former Jamaican national player would score the ensuing penalty kick to
give Thunder bolts an early 1-0 lead. They would produce many more chances but
was unable to capitalize, keeping Western in the game which stood at 1-0 into
the half time break.
The second
half started with Western regrouping and showing signs of a comeback. However
it was not until the final 15 minutes of regulation that Western started to
dominate after coach Michael Palmer went to his bench for his ace Hector Wright
another former Jamaican national player. He would pay immediate dividends
scoring from a free kick some thirty five yards out to even the game at 1-1.
The score
would remain tied after 90 minutes of ball forcing a penalty shoot out and
after a Kavan King miss for Thunder Bolts everybody else netted for both teams
resulting in a 5-4 shoot out victory for Western.
