Sunday, 30 November 2008 |
The Fort Lauderdale Gray Dogs once more secured the trophy for the for
the annual Tampa Bay Grasshoppers Veteran’s Weekend Tournament by
delivering a 3-2 penalty shoot out over host team, Tampa Bay
Grasshoppers.
This was the fourth year in a row that the Gray Dogs emerged victorious
in this tournament, knocking off teams like Miami Surf and the
Grasshoppers.
The 2-day tournament was challenging for the victors who played one
person short on Saturday and yet losing only one of the 6 games
played. The team's MVP Wesley Walton earned this coveted award by
playing both ends of the field and showing off his skills at the
amazement of opponents, spectators and even team-mates.

Patriots rain on Dolphins’ parade |
|

Sunday, 30 November 2008 |
For just over three quarters, the Miami Dolphins really looked like the
improved, play-off potential team that won their last four games in
succession, and defeated the New England Patriots convincingly early in
their season. But, on Sunday inexperience and frustration overcame game
skills and the team crashed to a whopping 48-28 defeat by the Patriots
at Dolphins stadium.
Until just after the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Dolphins
competed keenly with the Patriots, who obviously came into Miami to
avenge the embarrassing defeat by the Dolphins in September. Signs of
the tremendous offensive feat that Patriots substitute quarterback,
Matt Cassel would display was seen in the Patriots first drive when he
completed all of his five passes, but with the Dolphins strong
defensive stance, the Patriots only scored a field goal. Minutes after,
the Dolphins scored a touchdown after cornerback Jason Allen tipped a
Cassel pass from Patriot’s wide receiver Randy Moss to set up a TD pass
from Chad Pennington to Greg Camarillo. But the Patriots scored two
touchdowns in the second quarter, one a six yard quarter back sneak
into the end zone by Casssel and the other a 25 yard pass to Randy
Moss. The Dolphins answered with a 7 yard TD run by Pennington and the
first half ended Patriots 17 Miami 14.

Dolphins win four in a row |

Sunday, 23 November 2008 |
Sure, it’s a great and refreshing accomplishment that the Miami
Dolphins are continuing their winning streak, but if they continue
winning like they did over the Oakland Raiders last Sunday and the
Seattle Seahawks the week before, they are going to give their fans a
nervous breakdown.
A win is a win and, of course, the Dolphins 17-15 victory over the
Raiders is welcome, but the team needs to convincingly beat teams with
losing records like the Seahawks and the Raiders. The week before, the
Dolphins barely escaped losing to the Seahawks, and last Sunday Dolfans
held their collective breath as rookie kicker Dan Carpenter made what
was the game-winning field goal and defeated a spirited Raiders team.
In Sunday’s game Dolphins wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. had another
outstanding game. Although he had only 53 yards receiving (plus 113
running) he made some critical plays against the raiders that helped to
seal the team’s sixth victory this season. The most memorable play was
in the first quarter when Ginn took a handoff on a reverse play and
went scored on a 40 yard touchdown giving the Dolphins a 7-0 lead.
However, his catch from quarterback Chad Pennington at the two minute
warning in fourth quarter was the catch of the game.

T&T advance, Jamaicans not headed to Africa |
|
|
|
|
Sunday, 23 November 2008 |
Trinidad and Tobago trounced Cuba 3-0 at the Hasley Crawford Stadium in
Trinidad, to advance to the next round of the CONCACAF World Cup
qualifier, while Jamaica although registering a 3-0 win over Canada at
home came up short and failed to advance. Both matches were played on
Wednesday.
Though the objective for both teams was identical, their passages to
the next round were largely different. While Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz
needed to win and hope that other results go in their favor in Group 2,
T&T’s Soca Warriors could afford the luxury of a draw and advance,
regardless of the other results in Group 1.
That’s because even though Jamaica won, they still finished third in
their zone as they needed either Mexico or Honduras to slip up badly in
order to advance. The Reggae Boyz entered Wednesday’s game on seven
points, three adrift of leaders Mexico and two behind the second placed
Honduras who defeated Mexico 1-0 to top the group.

Dolphins on winning streak |
|

Monday, 17 November 2008 |
The Miami Dolphins is on a roll. After their thrilling defeat of then
AFC leaders, the Buffalo Bills (25-16) at Dolphins Stadium on October
26, the team handily defeated the Denver Broncos in Denver on November
2. In this game the defense, led by linebacker Joey Porter bothered the
Broncos offensive team, especially in the last quarter, to seal this
victory.
Then, last Sunday, again at Dolphin’s Stadium, the team defeated the
Seattle Seahawks 21-19, accomplishing something they haven’t done for
the past three seasons, winning three games in a row, and having a
winning record, 5-4. Although there are still 7 games to go in the
season and because they have four of these games against teams with
losing records, there is a distinct possibility that the Dolphins could
make it to the playoffs this year.
However, to accomplish this they will have to play much better than
they did against the Seahawks, who they were predicted to defeat by at
least 9 points. If the Seahawks’ wide receivers had made crucial
catches on third and fourth down as they moved nearer to the Dolphins
goal line in the dying minutes of the game, they could easily have won
by just scoring a field goal.
