Barrington
Irving an ‘inspiration’
Dear Sir:
On March
23rd, Barrington Irving, Jr., a 23-year old senior at Florida Memorial University climbed into a single-engine plane
he calls "Inspiration,"
and embarked on a round the world flight that will make him the first person of
African descent and the youngest person ever to fly solo around the globe. The streets
of downtown Miami
should be filled with proud Miami-Dade Countians
of all ethnicities for a ticker tape parade when he makes his triumphant return
sometime early next month. Check out
www.experienceaviation.org
and follow his amazing story as we prepare a "hero’s welcome" to Barrington who proves "something good can come from Liberty City."

We live in
a racist society
Dear
Editor,
When are we
going to realize that America
is a racist society, and stop being so surprised when incidents like that that
involving this radio and TV man, Imus, is revealed. The fact is that the white
man always looks down on the black man, and what is even more important is that
the white people are afraid of the power and the potential of black Americans.
They realize black people are making strides in all areas of American life, and
they are sacred, so they will always try to insult us and beat us down.
However,
all their efforts are in vein, because it has been prophesized that a black man
shall rule this country, and black people, like yeast in bread, are going to
eventually rise to their place at the top of the society. I don’t know when
this is going to happen, but the day is at hand.
And let us
not forget that although they love to claim it, American white people do not
make up a majority race in this world, there are more black people, including
Africans, Caribbean people and Asians; and
Chinese than white people anywhere. So; glory and power to black people, and
let’s just leave people like Imus to their stupidity and folly. “They know not
what they do.”

Dear Sir:
As I read
your editorial last week and I looked at the current situation with the 101
Haitians, I have to say that it is unfortunate that Haitian refugees are not
allowed the same courtesies as Cubans.
However, if
one looks at this whole policy objectively, one could argue the reason why the
policy is not the same for Haitians as it is for Cubans is that if it were so,
then maybe we would have a massive exodus of Haitian migrants turning up on the
shores of the United States.
One can
only imagine the number of people that would be trying desperately to flee the violent
and impoverish nation seeking refuge from Uncle Sam.
