Avoid "Passport Panic" PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 21 August 2006

As air travel becomes more security driven, and US citizens will soon be required to have a passport for reentry into the US, it is recommended that potential travelers apply for a passport now before the December 31, 2006, deadline.

While some travelers may feel woozy in the car or fatigue after a lengthy trip, the experts at Empress Travel and Cruises are warning travelers about ways to avoid another type of ailment, called "passport panic."

As of December 31, 2006, the United States will require passports for all international air and cruise travel -- including to and from the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, Bermuda and Panama. Previously, drivers' licenses and birth certificates were sufficient. Under the new federal law, without a passport, passengers coming from these areas via airplane or ship will be denied entry.

Dominica airline PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 25 July 2006

A Dominica-based airline is starting direct flights from here into Canefield Airport in Dominica as of this week and aviation officials involved in the new effort are calling the service revolutionary.

"The new service by TakeAir Dominica will put people who want to visit Dominica right near Roseau, the capital of the island in just over an hour," said Peter Blackman of Princes Juliana Airport Handlers, which manages the airport here.

The new flight will be conducted three times a week; on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at . Initially the flight will make a stop in Guadeloupe but once interest in the service picks up, that stop will be abandoned, Blackman said. He said after dropping off its passengers at Canefield, the flight will continue on to Martinique.

"This service is revolutionary because right now there is no flight from Juliana into Guadeloupe or Martinique. Also there are no direct flights to Dominica or to Roseau for that matter. This flight will cut down travel time and put you right in town. That should make this flight popular," said Blackman.

Juliana Airport Handlers was contracted to act as general ground handling and sales agents for TakeAir. Blackman said rates will be announced later this week and travel agents will get information to start selling the flights around the same time.

Juliana Airport Handlers was established in July 2005 to fill the void that will be created when Menzies Aviations relinquishes its passenger handling services at PJIA later this year.

By this, I mean that they promote the dangers rather than the simple positive things you can do to protect yourself and be able to confidently put the security issues in the background. After all, we travel and vacation for relaxation and enjoyment and having attention tied up in how dangerous it may all be defeats the purpose of going in the first place.

So do what you need to be safe and be confident in your actions.  Some helpful hints that you can put to use are:
