Singer Stacie Oricco echoed the following words; “I've got it all, but I feel so deprived I go up, I come down and I'm emptier inside. Tell me what is this thing that I feel like I'm missing and why can't I let go . . .” Then she moves on to belt out the chorus “there's gotta be more to life... than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me; cause the more that I'm... tripping out thinking there must be more to life. Well it's life, but I'm sure... there's gotta be more than wanting more. . .”
The fourth century theologian and philosopher Saint Augustine, long ago spoke about the restlessness of the human soul. According to Augustine the human soul is simple and immortal. This soul has three functions, being, understanding and loving. These three functions correspond to the three faculties of the human self-intellective memory, intelligence and will. The primary place among these three faculties is given to the will. It is in this will that choice resides. But it is in this will that human freedom is fully embraced. According to Augustine even with the freedom of the will the soul is restless. Humanity at the core is always searching for significance and meaning. This search can lead to futility, violence, and at the same time achieve the sublime in creativity and innovations. The reality, however, is that, this will has to be nurtured and trained to focus on the sublime.

The prevailing incidents over the past nine months leading to the current state of emergency and the related violence may have severely damaged Jamaica’s reputation and set back any possibility of realizing meaningful economic recovery in the near future. Ironically, the situation culminated into a major crisis just as the IMF announced that the nation had passed the first quarterly IMF test since receiving a loan from the Fund.
What the future holds for the nation does not look very optimistic at this juncture with the international profiled clash between Jamaican security forces and criminal elements entrenched in Tivoli Gardens, West Kingston, supported by some residents who have become dependent on this criminality.

The thousands of Jamaicans, home and abroad, who were part of the loud chorus demanding the resignation of Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding, are unsatisfied that the prime minister has not heeded the calls, but instead has shown contrition and apologized publicly.
On Monday evening Golding told the nation that the order to extradite Coke – a matter that has dragged on from last August – will now be signed. He apologized for his handling of the Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke extradition, which has embroiled the nation in a bitter internal and international controversy, and the related Manatt, Phelps and Phillips (U.S. law firm) debacle.

Conservative Republicans are making politics in America very interesting. Frankly, the term “Conservative Republican” is redundant, as by definition Republicans are Conservatives, placed on the right of American political ideology compared to Democrats, who are traditionally to the left.
However, in recent times, the Republican Party has become divided in what can be termed ultra-right conservatives (moving further to the right) and moderate Republicans (who have remained traditionally conservative). But the ultra-right conservatives see moderates as too close to Democrats, especially moderate Democrats who prefer not to move so far left as liberal Democrats. Confusing? Not really. But it seems that the ultra-right Republicans are creating confusion in American politics.
