It is interesting that the reason for a by-election in the West Portland constituency of Portland Jamaica is that the Jamaica Labor Party (JLP) candidate who ‘won’ that seat in the September 2007 general elections, held both Jamaican and US citizenships. Member of Parliament, Daryl Vaz was taken to task by the People’s National Party’s (PNP) defeated candidate Abe Dabdoub, for going against the Jamaican Constitution, which renders holders of dual-citizenship ineligible to run for Member of Parliament.
